Terms of Service
Last updated: September 29, 2026
These terms are an agreement between River Marketing Inc., a California corporation doing business as ThePermitBot (“we”, “us”), and the business that uses ThePermitBot (“you”). They apply to this website and to the ThePermitBot service, however you use it: on WhatsApp, through the “Get permit” button in PermitBot, or through the ThePermitBot API. By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use it.
1. What ThePermitBot does
ThePermitBot is a service for contractors. At your request, it prepares a permit application for a job, fills in the government agency's online form with the details you provide, attaches the documents you provide, and, after you approve it, submits the application on the agency's website on your behalf. It can then check the application's status and bring updates, correction requests and the issued permit back to you.
ThePermitBot is not a law firm, an architect, an engineer or a building official. It does not give legal or code advice and does not decide what a building code requires.
2. Pilot and availability
ThePermitBot is in a pilot. It works with a limited and growing list of cities and permit types, and features may change, be added or be withdrawn while we build it. We will tell you which of your cities and permit types are supported before you rely on it. Terms agreed with you in writing for the pilot (for example pricing) apply together with these terms, and win where they differ.
3. Who may use it
ThePermitBot is for businesses. Everyone who uses it must be at least 18 and use it for the work of the business they are with, not as a consumer. You are responsible for who in your business uses it and for what they do with it.
4. Your authorization
When you ask ThePermitBot to submit an application, you authorize us to act as your agent for that application: to enter your information and documents on the agency's website and to submit and follow up on it in your name. You confirm that you are allowed to apply for that permit, including that you hold the license the application states and have the property owner's authorization where the agency requires it.
If the service needs access to your account on an agency's website, we use that access only to prepare, submit and follow up on the applications you ask for. You can withdraw it at any time by telling us or by changing the password on that account.
5. You approve before anything is submitted
ThePermitBot shows you the completed application and the attached documents before it submits them (on WhatsApp, in PermitBot or in your own system), and submits only after you approve. An approval sent from your WhatsApp number, your PermitBot account or with your API key is treated as yours. Review what you approve: once an application is submitted, the agency has it, and withdrawing or correcting it is up to the agency's own process.
6. WhatsApp and the API
Messages you exchange with the bot on WhatsApp also pass through WhatsApp, which is run by Meta under its own terms. If you connect a system through the API, keep your API keys secret and tell us at once if one may have leaked; requests made with your keys are treated as yours. We may limit how many requests a key can make, and may change the API while it is in the pilot, telling you in advance where we can.
7. Accuracy of your information
You are responsible for the accuracy, completeness and truthfulness of everything used in an application, including addresses and parcel numbers, valuations, scope of work, measurements and specifications, license and insurance details, and owner information. The service uses what you or your PermitBot project provide. Where a denial, delay, penalty or other consequence results from inaccurate or incomplete information you provided, it is your responsibility.
8. No guarantee of approval
Whether a permit is issued, and how long that takes, is decided by the government agency. We do not guarantee that any application will be accepted, approved or processed within any time. A rejection, a correction request or a delay by an agency is not a failure of the service.
9. Fees
ThePermitBot is priced per permit application, at the price we agree with you before you use it. Permit, plan-check and other government fees are separate: they are set by the agency and paid to the agency. We do not take payment on this website.
10. What you may not do
- Use the service to submit an application you are not entitled to submit, or one you know to be false.
- Use it to break the law or the terms of an agency's website.
- Copy, resell, reverse-engineer or try to break into the service.
11. Your content, and ours
Your information and documents stay yours. You give us permission to store, process and submit them only so far as running the service for you requires. The software, the ThePermitBot and PermitBot names, logos and characters, and this website belong to River Marketing Inc.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy is part of these terms and describes what we do with personal information. If you also use PermitBot, its own privacy policy covers the data you keep there.
13. Ending
You may stop using ThePermitBot at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, provide false information or use the service in a way that could harm us, an agency or anyone else. Applications already submitted stay with the agency.
14. Disclaimer
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Government websites change and go down; we do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
15. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the permit application that gave rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, lost profits or revenue, project or construction delays, or penalties or fines imposed by an agency.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless River Marketing Inc. and its officers, employees and agents from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these terms, information you provided that was inaccurate or false, or an application you were not entitled to submit.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of California, and any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in Ventura County, California. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
18. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will tell you before it applies to you, by email or in the service. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
